What Is The Best Medicine For Anxiety And Depression?”

A ten-part series “What is the best medicine for anxiety and depression?” beginning this week with anxiety associated with a long haul flight transit stopover in Los Angeles International airport (LAX).

Earlier check-in times, long concertina serpentine queues, more personal belongings to remove from your person when passing through customs (footwear, laptops, breast milk), and less personal carry-on allowances. The downside of surviving all of this is that when you finally get to your departure gate you are greeted by airport seating that was not designed for horizontal occupancy. Also the repeated security announcements can really start to grate on your nerves after a while, as well as the kids running constantly between the seating aisles. There is nowhere to have a shower, no interesting shopping, and 12 more hours until your flight departs. Travel by air can be stressful even before your plane leaves the runway. What is the best medicine for anxiety of this nature? What is the best medicine for anxiety and depression?

Sign up to use the VIP member lounge instead of waiting around with the masses. If the stopover is sufficiently long then checking in to a local airport is a good idea. There are free hotel shuttle buses to and from the airport. You can take a refreshing shower, change of clothing and a really nice restaurant meal, go for a swim, workout at the hotel gym, watch TV or a few movies! Isn’t that better than sticking around listening to security announcements? Of course the hotel shopping isn’t any better than at the airport (you need to be in transit in Singapore for that) but it can break up a long trip into manageable segments, though if you really break the trip up – transit in Honolulu instead and stay for a few days.

What if hotels, tropical islands, and VIP lounges are not available options to you? Tough! Ha. Should’ve stayed home, oh yeah! Failing that, take a good book(s) or some good movies to watch on your iPod. Arranging these before your flight is a good idea; to increase your choices otherwise you are at the mercy of an airport shop. Oh, dear!
